Georgia Bruce trained Rumba using a combination of Clicker Training, Natural Horsemanship and Classical Dressage Training Techniques. Georgia has studied the science of how horses learn and this has culminated in teaching this horse to perform Grand Prix Dressage completely at Liberty.

Georgia does not use force or fear in training, only encouragement, rewards and repetition. Rumba also performs these Grand Prix Dressage movements under saddle.

Georgia Bruce is from Kuranda in Far North Queensland. She has represented Australia in Dressage on eight occasions. Most recently at the 2008 Paralympic Games where she won two bronze medals riding Carolyn Lieutenant’s 18hh horse Victory Salute. Georgia also competes successfully in open dressage to FEI level as well as cutting, western events, horse sports, hacking and reining. Georgia specializes in training young horses and retraining problem horses, and she also gives lessons and clinics around Australia helping people to get the best out of their horse and achieve their goals.

Don’t worry, this is a natural thing – I mean, do you really look forward to going to work each day?

The arena generally means work, it means schooling and exercise and thought; while the trail is often a relaxed walk/trot/canter just enjoying being out. Simply: the arena means pressure, the trail means no pressure.

Mix it up!

Christine & Sorchia riding Macca & Storm out on Dragonfly Park

Go for a trail ride first, and do lots of transitions, suppling exercises, lateral work, circles, serpentines, etc. while out on the trail. When you come home, head to the arena, treat it as your trail ride; relax and just wander around.

Pretty soon your horse will figure both work, and relaxation, can occur anywhere with you and the relaxing wind-down always follows work.
